Wallingford Democrats Endorse Slate of Candidates Ahead of Nov 4th Elections

Trump Administration Cuts CT Education Funding by $53MM; Wallingford BOE Budget Docked by $524,679

CT INSIDER- “The Trump administration's sudden freeze of federal education funds leaves almost no Connecticut school district unscathed, as more than $50 million dollars and the programs they fund face an uncertain future. Schools and education programs across the country had expected billions of already-approved funds to be distributed on July 1, but now, it's unclear when or if that money will ever go to the programs they were meant for. Those programs include summer school and after-school programs, teacher training, English language instruction and more…. Altogether, Connecticut stands to lose approximately $53.6 million in federal education funding for the 2025-26 school year, representing more than 10% of the federal education dollars the state receives each year. Only four of Connecticut's local public school districts are unaffected, with most districts seeing between at least tens of thousands of dollars to even millions of dollars on the line.”

Elections have consequences. After our own Republicans cut Wallingford’s 2025 proposed Board of Education budget by roughly $850K, MAGA decided to wait a couple months to come in and kick us while we’re down. After all, cruelty is the point. Anyway, that’s now almost $1.4MM in REPUBLICAN CUTS to our 2025 Board of Education budget, but who’s counting? More on that later in the newsletter ;)

Cervoni Announces $50K in Donations

As it turns out, being a mediocre Mayor can be pretty lucrative, especially when multiple employees of the same company “max out” their contributions every quarter. Since the WDTC does not rely on one or two companies to fund our entire campaign, we need all the help we can get. SMASH THAT DONATE BUTTON BELOW!!!!!

This Week in “Fighting Misinformation”

Are you sitting down? We have some difficult news to share: It’s recently come to our attention that Republicans have been lying to win elections. So in an effort to appeal to low-information voters online, we’ll be launching a new “Fighting Misinformation” graphic series. In this case, please DO feed the trolls!

Our next “graphics” are actually just screenshots from data on on the Wallingford Board of Education’s Website:

1) Many people, including current BOE members, have argued recently that our current Mayor is a “tireless advocate for our public schools”. Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that this is actually #FakeNews.

In fact, Mayor Cervoni has been either Mayor or Chair of the Town Council for the past 11 years, giving him direct control over the Board of Education budget. Prior to that, he was Vice Chair and/or Town Councilor for an additional four years. That makes 15 years total as a key influencer on the BOE’s budget.

So, courtesy of the cry for help budget numbers on our BOE website, let’s take a look at how much the Wallingford Republicans (lead by Mayor Cervoni) have “advocated for” our schools over the past two decades, shall we? After you’re done picking your jaw up off the floor, feel free to go check out towns like Cheshire, Guilford, Madison, Glastonbury, Farmington, etc, and see if they have having these issues… spoiler alert: they are not! It’s time to elect a Mayor who will support our schools. #VoteBlue06492

From Los Angeles to Meriden, immigrant communities across the country are being targeted with cruel and unconstitutional attacks from the federal government. As ICE continues to wreak havoc on law-abiding (and tax paying) families everywhere, we have a civic obligation to protect our neighbors and broadcast their constitutional rights widely. We cannot tolerate systematic injustice in our own backyard.

The Wallingford DTC proudly supports our immigrant community. Not too long ago, a senior at Maloney High & his father were unexpectedly detailed by ICE at a routine immigration check-in, and their family & the community as a whole were left reeling.

This type of treatment is unconscionable and will only get worse now that ICE’s budget ($28 BILLION) is now larger than the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshall’s Service, and Bureau of Prisons COMBINED. Yes, you read that correctly. We find it hard to believe that many Republicans in Connecticut voted for this. It’s time to speak up!!!

Congratulations to Our Great Friend Brandi Mandato on a Well-Deserved Honor from the Ella T. Grasso Women’s Leadership Brunch!!!

Brandi Mandato and the CT Working Families Party continue to hit the pavement hard. While Paul Cicarella is busy voting against education funding and covering the federal Medicaid shortfall, and Rep/Councilor Craig Fishbein dusts off decades-old Obama birther conspiracies and helping Charlie Kirk distract MAGA from the Epstein files, Brandi is out chatting with neighbors about pressing issues and a more equitable budget. We could not be more grateful for her efforts, and we hope that she will join our friend and mentor Mary Mushinsky in Hartford sometime soon! Luckily, we aren’t the only ones paying attention. Brandi was honored on July 13th at the CT Dem’s Ella T. Grasso Leadership Brunch, where guests included Rep Rosa Delauro, Gov Ned Lamont, CT First Lady Annie Lamont (who delivered the keynote address) and many others. Congratulations again, Brandi, on a well-deserved honor!!!

The WFP will be out knocking on doors throughout North Haven for the next several weeks, so stay tuned to our social media pages (as well as Brandi’s) for further updates. Many of us will be joining them, and we would love to see you out there! We will have be plenty of experienced canvassers to help train others, and we will never send you out there alone. We will also be launching our own canvassing project in the near future, so let us know if you are interested in helping us knock on doors!
